The Rescue Diver programme develops your knowledge and skills so you can effectively perform diver assists and rescues, manage diving accident situations and render first aid. This diving programme is an important step in expanding your knowledge and experience as a diver. Rescue Diver certification is also a prerequisite for all leadership programmes.
The Rescue Diver programme covers:
– Self-rescue and diver stress
– Diving first aid
– Swimming and non-swimming assists
– Egress (exits)
– Surfacing the unconscious diver
– Underwater problems
– Missing diver procedures
– Panicked diver response
– In-water artificial respiration
– Dive accident scenarios
– First aid procedures for pressure related accidents
– Emergency management and equipment considerations
To get into the Rescue Diver programme, you’ll need to be certified as an Advanced Open Water Diver. You’ll also need to have successfully completed a EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONSE® programme or a sanctioned programme in CPR within the past 24 months.
After successfully completing the programme, you’ll receive the internationally recognised Rescue Diver certification card.

Scuba Schools International (SSI) is an organization that teaches the skills involved in scuba diving and freediving, and supports dive businesses and resorts. SSI has over 2,500 authorized dealers, 35 regional centers, and offices all over the world.
SSI offers internationally recognized recreational diver training programs – starting with snorkeling and entry level scuba diving courses up to instructor certifications. The most common programs are: SSI Open Water Diver (OWD) and Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD). There are more than 30 different specialty courses. Dive leader training programs start with the Dive Control Specialist (who is qualified like Assistant Instructor) followed by Open Water Instructor and above.SSI’s training program for children aged 8–12 years is called Scuba Rangers.
The main difference to other dive training organizations is that SSI instructors are only allowed to teach at SSI Dive Centers or SSI accredited dive clubs that adopt a franchise-like concept.
