{"id":160834,"date":"2020-05-18T09:34:36","date_gmt":"2020-05-18T02:34:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/member-diving.com\/blue-oceans-and-what-we-can-contribute-as-divers\/"},"modified":"2020-05-18T09:36:08","modified_gmt":"2020-05-18T02:36:08","slug":"blue-oceans-and-what-we-can-contribute-as-divers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/member-diving.com\/en\/blue-oceans-and-what-we-can-contribute-as-divers\/","title":{"rendered":"Blue Oceans and what we can contribute as divers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>&#8220;WATER AND AIR, THE TWO ESSENTIAL FLUIDS ON WHICH ALL LIFE DEPENDS, HAVE BECOME GLOBAL GARBAGE CANS.&#8221;<\/strong> \u2014 JACQUES COUSTEAU<\/p>\n<p>Blue Oceans (<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.divessi.com\/mission-deep-blue-becomes-blue-oceans-5619.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">formerly Mission Deep Blue<\/a>) movement supports the conservation and sustainable use of water, including the oceans, seas, coasts and waterways and their great diversity of plant and animal species.<\/p>\n<h2>You as a diver or as a not yet diver can make your contribution!<\/h2>\n<div class=\"video-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eElwDHWRkt0\" width=\"738\" height=\"375\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h3>Environmental awareness:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Commit to personally protect the environment<\/li>\n<li>Prevent others from causing damage through positive action and motivation<\/li>\n<li>Support useful projects and organizations dedicated to marine protection<\/li>\n<li>If possible, collect garbage on your dives \u2013 but only if doing so does not cause more damage to the environment<\/li>\n<li>If possible, cut hanging ropes and collect floating nets and plastics<\/li>\n<li>Inform your buddy or the crew on the surface if you were not able to remove the net<\/li>\n<li>Never eat shark fins, whale meat, turtle eggs, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Report immediately violations of the ban on the use of marine animals as souvenirs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Avoid Garbage:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Never throw inorganic waste into the sea \u2013 Plastics decompose incredibly slowly<\/li>\n<li>Minimize the production of garbage: Use reusable coffee mugs and lunch boxes, glass or metal bottles and shopping bags<\/li>\n<li>Do not bring unnecessary packaging to the resort<\/li>\n<li>Dispose of your waste in as eco-friendly a manner as possible<\/li>\n<li>If you smoke, dispose of cigarette butts in the proper receptacle, not on the ground or in the water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Dealing with the underwater world:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Only use a swim-through if you can do so without touching anything<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t swim or snorkel too close to the reef<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t touch or break corals<\/li>\n<li>Use labeled entrances\/exits for the water<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t disturb the sand, since it reduces visibility and smothers corals<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t hunt or bother animals<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t touch animals unless properly trained<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t feed animals<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t take souvenirs from the sea &#8211; broken coral pieces or empty snail shells still serve as useful habitat<\/li>\n<li>Only place a reef hook where it will not damage or disturb the reef<\/li>\n<li>Do not disturb animals or habitat to improve your photo opportunity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Responsible use of resources:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Shower only as long as required to get clean, especially in areas with minimal ability to store\/purify water<\/li>\n<li>Wash your equipment in the provided container, and only when necessary \u2013 often it\u2019s enough to clean equipment thoroughly at the end of the dive trip<\/li>\n<li>Turn off the lights when you aren\u2019t using them<\/li>\n<li>Use alternative transportation or walk instead of driving<\/li>\n<li>Avoid unnecessary waste &#8211;
